Top-notch galleries, slick organisation and a unique opportunity to explore the art scene in Korea; Colección SOLO’s recent visit to KIAF / Art Seoul sees a host of new faces join an ever-expanding collection, from the established video creator Lee Lee-Nam or the painter and installation artist Ahn Doojin through to up and coming talents such as Hongmin Lee and Jang Koal.
Colección SOLO acquired Hongmin Lee’s stunning oil painting I Hate You All earlier this year and has commissioned brand new work from this emerging artist. Inspired by comics and animation from an early age, Lee is currently focussing on acrylics and oils, his trademark monsters now in large scale format and intense colour.
Jang Koal is also expanding her artistic practice, moving from her more established work in illustration back to her roots in painting. Her gutsy female characters already form part of the collection, with Red Shoes Girl and Munk People displaying her characteristic blend of sexiness and gore. Koal’s first solo presentation is on show at Everyday Moonday until 13 November.
