The Garden of Earthly Delights, through the artworks of Colección SOLO, shown at Matadero Madrid from October 2021 until February 2022 and visited by more than 90,000 visitors, is an invitation to revisit and reconnect form de present-day with Hieronymus Bosch’s masterpiece.
The different approaches, evocative references and visionary reinterpretations in these contemporary works make for an exhibition experience which opens up for visitors the narrative wealth of the original triptych, its countless layers of interpretation, symbolic potential and ability to articulate a social portrayal of the present.
Works by SMACK, Mario Klingemann, Miao Xiaochun, Cassie McQuater, Filip Custic, Lusesita, La Fura dels Baus-Carlus Padrissa, Mu Pan, Dan Hernandez, Cool 3D World, Sholim, Dustin Yellin, Enrique del Castillo, Dave Cooper y Davor Gromilovic offer a contemporary perspective on the fifteenth-century masterpiece. Across a range of media including artificial intelligence, sound, digital animation, painting, sculpture and installation, the exhibition puts forward a reflection on the timeless, universal masterpiece.
The artworks in this exhibition, curated by Colección SOLO and co-produced by Matadero Madrid, form part of the collection’s holdings. The spatial concept for this show is the work of the architects, estudioHerreros.
