London-based artist D*FACE opens his first solo museum show this month at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Malaga. The exhibition will feature 40 different pieces including installations, paintings, silkscreens and stencils covering a 15-year career. Of course, Colección SOLO is delighted to participate in this unique celebration of D*FACE’s work: Peace is a Dirty Word, acquired by the collection earlier this year, will form part of the show.
Other highlights include D*FACE’s classic winged characters, D*Dog, Lichtenstein-like comic scenes or tongue-in-cheek portrayals of celebrities from Queen Elizabeth II through to Che Guevara. As CAC Director Fernando Francés summarises, “A family of dysfunctional characters populates his work.”
For the artist himself, the show’s title is key. “I spent the best part of my youth doing the exact opposite of what I was being told…It seems perfectly ironic that I should call my first museum show Wasted Youth, a middle finger salute to all those who believed following a tired curriculum was more important than following your heart and passion.”
Wasted Youth opens on 26th June and runs until 27th September 2015.
