Across painting, video and sound (under the pseudonym Lynda Blair), Hugo Alonso develops an artistic practice whose protagonists are fiction and the cinematographic. His grayscale paintings using acrylic on canvas or paper are near-photographic in appearance and often appear to be snapshots of a longer narrative. These suggested stories draw on a popular imaginary of film references, making Alonso’s anonymous protagonists and locations seem vaguely familiar.
Alonso initially trained in Salamanca before competing studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and has held gallery shows in Barcelona, Montreal, Antwerp and Madrid, among many others. His work has featured in exhibitions at Fundación Telefonica Madrid and MUSAC Leon, and he has received numerous awards, including the Gold Medal at the International Exhibition Valdepeñas (2022) and Art Madrid Noca Paper Best Solo Project (2016). In 2023 he received the Colección SOLO Acquisition Award at Urvanity Art Fair.
