Sabine Finkenauer has been living and working in Barcelona since 1993. Following her training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, she initially specialized in sculpture. However, upon settling in Barcelona, her artistic focus shifted towards painting. The overarching theme of Finkenauer’s work, as she describes it, revolves around “simple things.” Her canvases and drawings frequently feature objects such as furniture, clothing, plants, architecture, and mountains. She also incorporates figures drawn from childhood imagery and fairy tales, including dolls, girls, and princesses. This entire universe of “things” is depicted through a simple and rigorous formal language, playfully balancing abstraction and representation to evoke a reality without directly depicting it.

Finkenauer’s artistic journey has garnered recognition through years of consistent progression. Her solo exhibition at the Städtische Galerie in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany, and her participation in the “Non-Declarative Drawing” exhibition at the Drawing Center in New York (2007), attest to the profound impact of her ‘simple’ works. Furthermore, her recent involvement in “Pintura: renovación permanente” at the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid (2021) and “Drawing Positions” at the CAB in Burgos (2019), highlight her ongoing contributions to contemporary art. Finkenauer has held solo exhibitions throughout Spain, New York City, and Germany, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions internationally.
