The 20th and 21st of November, SOLO Independencia in Madrid hosted “Downonly,” a performative installation by artist Nikita Diakur. This 24-hour piece examined the concepts of falling and unpredictability, blending the physical and digital realms through everyday objects from the recent past and nearly vintage technology.

The installation combined a large physical structure, towering over more than 6 meters, mixing everyday elements and vintage technology with generative digital pieces. The centerpiece of the installation was a computer that generated digital sequences, which moved along the edge of the fall.

Over the course of 24 hours, online audience participation sped up or slowed down the descent of the computer through the physical structure. After the performance concluded, the installation remained on display until December as part of the SOLO Independencia exhibitions.

The performance, supported by the programme Onkaos, reflected on the relationship between control and unpredictability, using digital simulations to explore randomness and the limits of human control over the creative process.

Nikita Diakur, a German-based artist known for his work in computer simulation, is celebrated for his unconventional techniques and spontaneous approach. His works have been recognised at international festivals.
