Classical skills meet contemporary concerns in Abigail Schmidt’s cleverly understated paintings. Emaciated horses, anti-heroic soldiers or lethargic huntsmen make for an intriguing, modern-day twist on the historic landscape.
Originally from St. Augustine, Florida, Schmidt studied at the Lorenzo de Medici School in Florence and the Ecole Nationale Superior des Beaux Arts, Paris, before completing her BFA at the Museums of Fine Arts School in Boston. She further developed her painting skills at The Ryder Studio, Santa Fe and in 2015 completed her MFA at the New York Academy of Art.
A new face on the fine arts scene, Schmidt’s beautifully painted allegories have already caught the attention of galleries and collectors. She was one of the three emerging artists selected by Poulsen Gallery Copenhagen, together with New York Academy of Art, for their annual Graduates show in 2015.
